Congratulations to the 58th Annual Pee Wee Tournament Champions - the South Bruce Reps!

The South Bruce Rep Pee Wee Rep Boys took their undefeated record to the 58th Annual Pee Wee Tournament in Mitchell.

There was a group of powerhouse Pee Wee teams, which included the undefeated Mitchell Meteors, as well as the super strong teams of Ilderton, Stayner, Flesherton and Mount Forest.

The tournament started Friday for the boys, with them facing off against the Jets of Ilderton.  Mildmay came out fast and strong in the first netting the first 3 and looking like they would take this one easily.  This was not the case, as the Jets kept coming and did eventually beat the goaltender to make it 3-1.  The game was back and forth with Ilderton challenging the boys hard, but when the buzzer ended, South Bruce had the win.

Game 2:

Off to Monkton the boys went to meet their rivals from Goderich, who started the tournament with a tie against Stayner.  The South Bruce team was still pumped from their first victory of the day and came out strong scoring goak after goal.  This one became a real one sided affair as the Goderich team was short handed as they lost two  of their players in a rough game against Stayner.  South Bruce ended with 7 and Goderich only 2 and the boys were 2-0 in the tournament.

Game 3:

Back to Monkton on Saturday, the boys were meeting Stayner in the final game of the round robin.  South Bruce needed to win this game to ensure they came first in their division in preparations for the play-offs.  While our team was preparing for the game, Ilderton was taking care of business by already beating Stayner and pounding Goderich.  The game against Stayner started well for South Bruce but it was more or less a sloppy affair.  Stayner was not going to bow out of this tournament easily and actually pulled their goalie in the last minute of the first period trying desperately to get a goal.  The game was back and forth and Stayner was able to tie it late in the 3rd and the final was a surprising 3-3 and South Bruce was fortunate to land first place in our division.

Game 4:

Flesherton and South Bruce have a history with each other at the Pee Wee level and the games were always close.  These two teams would meet in the first game of the play-offs with the winner going to the finals.  The game against Stayner may have been a good thing as the boys came out much harder, moving the puck very well and dominating the play for most of the game.  The game ended with a solid South Bruce victory and the boys were off to defend their championship against the Ilderton Jets.

The Final:

Sunday afternoon was do or die for South Bruce as they were able to meet Ilderton once again who just came off beating the previous undefeated Meteors of Mitchell.

The game did not start like the last time the teams met as Ilderton got the first goal.  The boys kept working and moving the puck well and were able to get the next 3 to make it 3-1.  The third period came and the boys got into some penalty trouble and the Jets kept attacking and attacking.  Eventually Ilderton were able to pull within one, but the boys kept strong and finished the game leading 3-2 to become the 58th Annual Mitchell Pee Wee Tournament Champions.

Good work to all of the kids, as this is the best hockey you played all season.  Next tournament is in Lucknow next weekend.
