End of Regular Season Play
Submitted By Jason Rogers on Mon 02 03, 14
The Local League #2 team has come a long way this year!

The Novice Local League #2 team has had a real good start of 2014 racking up the wins and having a real good time along the way.

As the 2013-2014 season started, the coaching staff had a clear goal in mind for our kids and that was to teach, teach, teach the fundementals of the game.  As the season started, the kids experienced some bumps along the road, but surprisingly they never got down on themsleves and kept focus on learning positional hockey, the importance of passing and driving to the net.  The defense has developed greatly.  The forward growing every game and the goaltending getting better and better.

The final game of the season was against our friends to the north in Walkerton.  They have had a real good season and only lost 1 game.  Going into the game, the South Bruce kids came off of a big tie with a real good team from Listowel and the team had an air of confidence that was really nice to see.

The game started with play going back and forth, with both teams getting their chances.  The offfense, defense and goaltending was strong for both teams.  By the time it was late in the 3rd, our kids were down and it looked like we may be in some trouble against this real solid team.  The kids wouldn't cave and hemmed the Capitals in their zone and tied the game.  The excitement rose and the kids still challenged the Walkerton team and would get the go-ahead goal.  The kids hung on and kept the Walkerton in check to win 4-3 and end the regular season on a real positive note.

Here are a few highlights of the 2013-2014 season so far.

Started the first ten games 1-9 - ouch, but hey the kids were developing and becoming a real team.

The Christmas Tournament in Wingham, the team came together and played their best hockey of the year coming away as the Champs of their division and received their first and I am sure not last trophy of the Season.  Good job kids!!!

After the 1-9 start of the season, the LL#2 team went 6-3-1 in their last 10 games.

The kids beat 3-2 Listowel Black, who before their game agaist our kids, did not lose a game all year.

The kids were victorious against Walkerton, who earlier in the year beat us 8-2.  Also, the loss against South Bruce was only their second all year.

Congratulations kids and coaches and on behalf of all of the parents, we appreciate what you have acomplished so far this year.

Let's keep it going into the play-offs.
