Silver Stick Weekend
The Christmas holidays were good to the kids and Silver Stick was oh so close.

The Ferrier Novice Reps have been working extremely hard during the last month leading up to the Regional Silver Stick tournament in Ripley.  This tournament hosts the best teams across Mid-Western Ontario and the boys were ready for the task.

The tournament started against our foes, the top place team in the WOAA - the Minto Mad Dogs.  The boys were eager, energetic and ready to play hard.  The game started well for the kids as we scored often and early.  Minto showed why they haven't lost one game in the regular season this year by fighting back.  It was one of the most exciting games of the year, with the play going back and forth.  The final horn rang and the score ended in a 7-7 draw.  Alex Stroeder had the double hat trick, scoring 6, while Ethan Rogers netted 1.

Our next game was against the second place team in Western Ontario - the Seaforth Stars.  We played Seaforth 3 times in the regular season, with South Bruce winning 1 and Seaforth winning 2.  This game was also a barn burner with teams exchanging chances and the defense of Emery Fortney, Conner McIntosh, Dylan Weber and Conner Lee kept the Stars at bay limiting their chances.  When they did break free, Tim Metcalfe was excellent in net allowing our forward lines of Simon Henry, Alex Stroeder, Landon Christie, Ethan Rogers, Mitch Metcalfe and Austin Gutscher to get us into the game.  Again, when the final buzzer sounded, the score was 3-3 - another tie showing how evenly matched these teams are.

Game 3 was against our southern neighbours in Wingham and this was a must win game for the South Bruce boys if we were going to move on.  The boys must of had a good rest because they came out flying scoring goal after goal while playing excellent defense.  The final score of this game was 8-1 - oh so close for the shut-out.  This was a real good team effort with some really heads up plays by the defense who acted like quarterbacks allowing their forwards to get in deep and score.  Good work to Simon Henry with 2 goals, Alex Stroeder with 3 goals, Landon Christie with 2 goals, and Conner Lee with a nice break to net 1 goal.

The call came and we were informed that we were moving on to the semi-finals against Dundalk, a team that hasn't lost all year.  The boys were ready for them and the game started fast with both teams skating hard and getting their chances.  We could see why Dundalk was doing so well this year.  Their defense was strong and they worked hard.  Our South Bruce boys kept right with them and even when we were down a goal, the kids roared back and evened it up with a goal by Alex Stroeder.  Dundalk would again take the lead, this time opening it up to a 3-1 score, but the kids kept fighting back and Landon Christie netted one.  We about a minute left we pulled our goalie for the extra attacker and kept the pressure on them right until the buzzer rang, but couldn't net another.  Dundalk ended up winning Silver Stick.  Our boys were Oh So Close.

Silver Stick ended and our record was an impressive 1-1-2 against some of the best teams out there.  All Coaches were really impressed with how well these young men performed and we look forward to the rest of the regular season and the play-offs.

Again thanks for Ferrier Custom Homes for sponsoring our team.
