Ferrier Novice Reps - Learning Lots
The Ferrier Novice Reps have had a challenging schedule playing some of the top teams in South Western Ontario but have come away with a lot of lessons learned and are chomping at the bit to get back to their winning ways.

Sunday November 2nd seen the boys take the trip to Wingham to play the Ironmen.  This is a rematch of our October 19th game where the South Bruce Ferrier Reps defeated them soundly 7-2.  The boys came out strong passing the puck and making good plays getting an early 2-0 lead.  The Ironmen didn’t give up and our Novice boys started to play a little sloppy allowing the WIngham team to come back and tie the game late.  The game ended 2-2 and it sure proved that the boys have to play a full game to win and that there are no easy teams in our division. Our kids next game would be against Minto in Harriston, the very next night.  South Bruce didn’t know what to expect from this Minto team and we were introduced a very good skating team that attacked well.  The Minto attack surprised the boys a bit and Minto jumped to an early lead.  It took some time for the kids to get their legs moving, but they did and kept the game close and never gave up.  The final score was Minto 8 and South Bruce 6, but the learning opportunity in this game was strong positional hockey wins games and at times, our kids lost focus on this and it led to allowing a few goals.  Good work kids as you worked hard to battle the Minto team making the game close. During the weekend of November 7th – the boys headed to Hensall and Exeter for the South Huron tournament.  This tournament was huge, hosting many of the top teams in Southern Ontario.  The kids were in every game and battled hard.  The first game was an very aggressive game against Wallaceburg.  Numerous physical plays and many penalties.  The boys played a very good game but came up short losing 5-2.  The Ferrier Hard Hat was presented to Alex Stroeder (#3) for his excellent two way play and for potting the first goal of the game.  Also, recognition to Simon Henry (#77) for getting his first.  Game #2 seen the boys come up against another solid team in the Caledonia Thunder.  This game was less physical but it was a run and gun sort of game, with goals coming often.  Excellent play by our goalie Timmy Metcalfe and solid play by the kids throughout, but the team would come up short in this one losing 5-4.  The Ferrier Hard Hat went to Austin Gutscher (#17) who netted two nice goals.  Game #3 was against the local team – the BCH Ice Dogs, who have been dominating their league all year.  Our South Bruce kids were up for the task and came out strong exchanging chances and playing real well.  Again, lady luck was not on the South Bruce side and BCH took a lead in the second and didn’t look back making it a 4-0 win for the local team.  The Hard Hat this time went to Landon Christie (#42) for his fine two way play. Our boys played hard and are still learning lots and are having a great time playing hockey! With the disappointment of losing the tournament, the boys weren’t down on themselves at all when they travelled to play against Blyth-Brussels this past Saturday.  The kids came out strong and a few changes to the team made a real impact.  Give credit to the whole team, especially Simon Henry (#77) and Conner Lee (#36) who were trying new positions for the year and did a real good job.  Also, to Dylan Weber (#94) who played a very long solid game and to Conner McIntosh (#25) for anchoring a defense that was shorthanded.  The game ended 5-2 South Bruce with Alex Stroeder (#3) netting the natural hat trick. Learning lots is what the kids are doing and they are improving practice by practice and game by game.  Next game is Monday November 17th against the Seaforth Stars
