Pink on the Rink Tournament Finalists
The South Bruce Blades Pee Wee Rep girls team travelled to Exeter this past weekend to compete in the 4th Annual Pink on the Rink Tournament.

There were 12 teams competing in the Pee Wee C girls division and the Blades were scheduled to play against the Kitchener Lady Rangers, South Huron Sabres and BCH Ice Dogs in pool play.  Not knowing what to expect or really have a feeling of how the Blades would stack up against the competition, the girls were excited to have the day off school and hang out at the arena with their teammates.

The Blades took to the ice in game 1 on Friday morning vs. Kitchener and after three periods of end-to-end action the local gals would come away with an exciting 3-2 victory.  The win would ignite the South Bruce gang and they came out flying in game 2 versus the hometown South Huron Sabres.  Some stellar saves by Ashton followed by a couple of timely goals and the girls from Bruce County would claim a 2-1 victory at the sound of the final buzzer.

With their season's first winning streak now in place, the girls started to believe they could compete with some of the other centres giving them a boost of confidence in the dressing room and on the ice.  Game 3 would see the Blades take on the BCH Ice Dogs and once again the girls showed their determination and drive is not to be overlooked.  An unfortunate bounce in the dying minutes of the 3rd, would give BCH the tying goal to knot the score at 2 apiece and that is the way it would remain.

At the end of pool play, South Bruce would finish in first place with 2 wins and a tie to earn them a spot in the semi-finals against the Mitchell Meteors on Saturday afternoon.  Excitement and nervousness filled the air in the dressing room before the semi's, but the girls were re-assured they had what it takes to win another one.  The Blades and Meteors would trade goals in periods 1 and 2 with both teams getting plenty of Power Play time throughout, but neither team could get dent the twine in the 3rd, forcing a sudden victory overtime period.  By this time, some Blades didn't want to go back on the ice and some players couldn't stomach watching the OT period, but the coaching staff reminded the girls it is just another period of hockey and to have fun.    It only took 21 seconds, but a quick pass out of the Blades end to a streaking centre followed by a crisp pass to a blazing right winger and a wrister inside the left post of the Meteors net would send the team of South Bruce girls screaming in joy out on the ice.  The girls earned themselves a berth in the final game on Championship Sunday.

The Championship game on Sunday would see the mighty TCDMHA Rebels take on the South Bruce Blades and as expected the high-powered offense of the Rebels was too much this time around and TCD would skate away with a well-deserved 5-0 victory.  The Blades were quite proud of their accomplishment on the weekend and proved that they are a determined group of young ladies.

Great weekend girls!
