Referee Programs/Clinics
Recertification notices have been sent out to all officials throughout the W.O.A.A. region advising them of upcoming recertification courses that all officials must take.  The W.O.A.A. will have two locations Walkerton on September 24 at 12 noon for registration, located at Walkerton District Community School, 1320 Yonge Street South, Walkerton ON N0G2V0 and Clinton -October 1st also at 12 noon, located at St.Anne’s Catholic High School, 353 Ontario Street, Clinton, ON N0M1L0.

If an official has not received this message they must go into the OMHA home page; at the top they will see referee; put cursor on it and sub box will show up; click on recertification and a page will open up.  Fill out the information adding all here refereeing information like referee number. Once all the information has been added then submit it and they will get back something from the OMHA.  Exams for on line are to come out on line August 15th and hopefully they are on time.  Supervisors and supervisions will take place this fall and hopefully everyone can be seen and start preparing officials for higher levels and getting recommended for level three.  If there are people who are looking for this to happen contact the Supervisor in your area so they can start to work on this for everyone.

Requests are coming in asking about Entry Level clinics for officials.  Yes, we have two dates- all day events -one in Hanover on Sunday, October 23rd and the second one will be Sunday, October 30th in Blyth.  We just got permission about this a few days ago so are preparing registration forms to send out to applicants.  Please only want people who have played the game and can skate no beginners.  If someone is asking, they must be 14 years of age as of December 31st of this year.  If the applicant is 18 years of age or older they must submit a VSC police check to attend the clinic.  If they are under 18 years of age no police check is required.  Interested people can do these courses ahead of time -respect in sport official and HU-officating 1/2.  These courses have to be completed on line and the certificates produced the day of the clinic.  Yes there is a fee for these courses $20 plus HST for respect and $21 plus HST for the officiating 1/2.  When the registration forms are completed (we are presently waiting on information so the costs for these clinics are set properly for everyone); the forms will be on line on the W.O.A.A. website and sent out to the centres.  Please we are looking at 30 per clinic and want only people from the W.O.A.A. area.  Next year Goderich and Shallow Lake have requested they be the host of the entry level clinics.  Referee Assignors, make sure how many new referees you require.  We lose so many because they are not getting enough games and please put an older official to lead them along.
