Great Start For Atom Rep.
The Atom Rep Blades traveled to St. George to compete in the annual Jack Tolhurst Memorial Tournament this past weekend October 21st - 23rd. The 10 team tournament hosted games in both St. George and Paris.

The tournament was round robin style with teams gaining 2pts for a win and 1pt for a tie. The Blades have spent the early part of the season practicing and getting a grasp on the fundamentals of team play and this was their first opportunity to employ those tactics.
In the first of two games on Friday the boys faced Ayr and were keen to play and did not disappoint. They played with high intensity and strong positional poise while moving the puck around with quick hard passes making it look like a game of keep away at times. The boys led 5-0 after the first and then let up for the remainder of the game which finished with a 7-0 final. Player of the game was awarded to Blake Elzinga.
In the second game on Friday the lads faced off against a tougher opponent from Delhi. In this match the boys picked up right where they left off in the first game and found themselves behind 2-0 before getting back to a more consistent game plan. The boys turned the table and fought back to come out with a 2-2 tie. Player of the game was awarded to Emery Fortney.
The team and parents then retreated to the hotel for some social time around the pool.
For the Blades third and final round robin game on Saturday they were pitted against last years OMHA 'C' Champs from Belmont. The boys lacked some intensity to start the game and found  themselves once again behind 2-0. The boys showed true character and battled back to finish with Belmont scrambling to hold onto a 3-3 tie and a Blades goal being disallowed. Player of the game was awarded to Ethan Rogers. The Blades improved with each game and this second tie brought their point total to 4pts which was good enough to move on to Sunday's semifinal against the Aylmer Flames.
The Blades returned to the hotel with a curfew enforced on the players and voluntarily taken by a number of tired parents after an active time the night before.
On Sunday morning a refreshed Blades crew took to the ice and played their first complete start to finish game of the season; skating hard and staying focused on the game plan. The consistent play during this game was to much for the strong Aylmer Flames as the Blades skated to a 5-0 victory. Player of the game was awarded to Simon Henry. This semifinal win meant the boys would face an undefeated and tough competitor from Guelph In the finals.

The boys played another complete game out playing the Gryphons for the majority of the game but we're only able to solve the Gryphons net minder but once. Losing the championship by a score of 2-1. The steadily improved play of Blades goal tender Blake Bietz was a large reason for the close score and earned him the player of the game award.
The  boys ( and parents ) had a great weekend and were able to start their season off heading in the right direction with better things to come.
