Silver is better than Gold!
On January 10th the South Bruce Midget Reps travelled to Forest to participate in the 24th annual International Silver Stick finals.

With a 3 game round robin to decide who would make it to the play-off round, there wasn't much room to lose a game or two.
The first game was against the South West Bullets.  After a back and forth 1st period the game was tied 1-1.  The second period proved to be our best period out scoring them 2-0 and killing off 3 penalties.  Going into the 3rd with the boys up by 2 they put there game into shut down mode with some great shot blocks and defense.  Scoring a goal midway through the 3rd finished off the Bullets.  Final score 4-1 for South Bruce.
Game 2 was Friday afternoon against the hometown boys from East Lambton.  This game was a little more physical as both teams made quite a few trips to the penalty box.  In between killing off 6 penalties the boys found time to sneak 2 goals by the East Lambton goalie.  Final Score 2-0.
The 3rd and final game of the round robin was against our neighbours from Wingham.  Having played them 3 times already this year we knew what kind of team they were.  Wingham scored a goal in each period and South Bruce only scoring in 2nd & 3rd and a few shots off the wrong side of the post, Wingham came out on top 3-2.
South Bruce having 2 wins and 1 lose and Wingham having 2 wins and 1 lose also, this set up a rematch in the semi-finals on Saturday night.  With Wingham again scoring the 1st goal of the game, led 1-0 after one.  The 2nd period again proved to be a strong one for the boys from Bruce as they out scored Wingham 2-0 and led 2-1 going into the final period.  With a goal early in the 3rd and huge penalty kill late in the game sent the boys into the finals on Sunday.  Final score 3-1.
Championship Sunday came with a few butterflies and nerves, but after an inspirational speech from Coach Aaron and reassuring words from Ben and Brett, the boys were ready for the big show!  Port Dover was the #1 ranked team going undefeated in the round robin.  This game proved to be one of the most exciting games of the tournament, with both teams creating great chances, big hits and amazing saves by both goalies.  At the end of regulation time, the game was tied at 2 goals each.  Next up was 10 min sudden victory overtime and sudden victory it was!  1 min, 19 secs in, it was over and 3-2 for the good guys.
A big shout out to the parents, grandparents, friends and fans who supported these boys this week-end and all season long.  An even bigger shout out to the boys for their dedication and commitment making this week-end and regular season very successful.
Let the play-offs begin!
