Friday night .....the boys went to town!!!
Firing on all eight cylinders is what the coaching staff had the boys doing Friday night. When the first skate blade hit the ice for South Bruce, you knew they had a snap in their stride that they sometimes forget to bring.....

We started putting pressure on West Grey right off the start of the game with Karson having a great shot that was captured by their goalie. The boys on the blue line kept turning the play back to their end as they found out how hard it was to try to get by Nick as he broke up several runs to our end. We opened the scoring with a outstanding pass from Ryan to Sam to Karson that pushed the netting back in their goal. 1-0 for South Bruce. We almost had another with a shot from Nick that Bradley tipped up forcing the goalie to make a fast save.
Back to our end with a flurry of activity but Matthew pounced on the puck to stop play and let us get organized. However, shortly after that they had a good pass from the corner out front to a man and he popped it in to knot the score at 1 a piece. Back down the ice and Karson got the puck to Brad and he fought hard to bring the puck out of the corner to awaiting Sam the man who snapped in a fast one to move us ahead by one now 2-1.
The boys are starting to set up some pretty plays and some are just inches away from being spectacular. Darren had one of those passes to Tanner for a break away and just missed the mark. Brandon and Lacklan stood tough on the blue line and turned away several attempts from them.Several other great shots by Jake, Karson, Tanner, Sam , Simon that closed off the first period.
Period two.... more great attempts by Karson, Sam and Brad started off the second period. The Hays boys on a shared shift kept West Grey at bay. Johnny fed an accurate pass from the blue line up to Karson and Brad but it was not meant to be. Johnny did it all himself with a great shot to move the gap a little wider for South Bruce. 3-1. Brandon was the lone man back for a 3 on 1 man rush and did a wonderful job of reading the play and broke it up before they could get in scoring range. A little later Nick had his radar locked on one of their players and West Grey player backed away from his attempt to cross the blue line. Back to their end and Nick got the puck to Ryan and Karson shot picked up his own rebound and in it went now 4-1. Lachlin had a great shot from the blue line but no rebound was found. With 5 left in the second, there was a bunch of action in front of our net but Matthew kept it our side of the goal line. They answered back with a 2 one 1 rush and a flat angle shot brought them up the score board to 4-2. Brad stormed back down the ice, and I must say a very impressive shot from the red line...very hard and right on the mark but it was gloved down. By this point their goalie was starting to develop an allergy to rubber and he did a great job stopping many South Bruce shots. As we approached the end of the second Tanner , Darrin and Simon all had great attempts. Johnny stood solid on the blueline and even though his opponent was a foot and a half taller he didn't budge Johnny!
As we turned the page into the third period, 30 seconds in Jake from the top of the hash marks let fire and ka-pow...it was in the net..5-2. Moral of the story: If you never shoot at the net it will never go in.
All the forwards stepped up as did the defense as we rolled through he third. They had a break away that Matthew hauled down. Johnny took a shot fed to him by Karson, at what looked like rush hour on the 401 with the amount of traffic in front of the net and their keeper never had a chance as the score board lit up again making it 6-2. This was followed shortly after by Simon that show what looked like a flat stone skipping across the water and the bouncing puck flew over the goalies glove putting us up 7-2. Sam and Karson had another attempt and then Darrin had a great shot that was matched by a great save by West Grey.We drew our first of two penalties and they got it to their man at the top of the blue paint for the next West Grey point. This 7-3 final showed what the boys can do by working together and making plays, not just getting rid of the puck. With only 2 penalties we were able to keep the lines rolling and everyone had a chance to touch the puck in this game. Well done boys!! It was a fun game to watch.
