First game of the new year not the way we planned...
The Mt Forest team hit the ice in South Bruce on a cold night Friday night .....it was so cold I saw a dog frozen to a fire hydrant on the way to the arena...

The first period for the South Bruce boys was exciting as the blue line boys did a great job of keeping the puck in the Mt Forest end for almost half the first period. We had some chances ....the best being a great re-direct from Sam Ireland that was gloved down by the Mt Forest keeper.
Mt Forests #11 who had great speed and a very hard shot had a break away and put it past Matthew with 2:05 left in the first. About a minute after that, we failed to clear the puck when it came out from behind the net to the slot and it was up and over Matthews left shoulder leaving it at 2 - 0 against us as we headed to the 2nd.

The second period started out fine with a pass from Tanner Meyer to Sam Ireland who carried the puck in well and was waiting for the right opportunity and then snapped one by the Mt Forest goalie making it 2-1.  We got a penalty but that did bring on some opportunity at their end as the boys played hard. Brad McGlynn and Tanner almost had something going but it was captured in the glove of the Rams goalie. Back to our end and #11 fired a bullet us from the blue line and was denied by Matthew. There was some end to end play at the end of the second and some saves for South Bruce until a wrap around goal by them with 38 seconds left made it 3 -1 as we headed to flood time.
The third period we had another great effort by Sam, and Tanner was in the perfect spot for the rebound but there was not one to be had. They put another one in with 10 minutes left in the third and we answered back with us winning the draw and then Tanner fired and beat the goalie on the glove side making it 4-2.

Matthew made a great save through heavy traffic with 2:33 left as the clock slowly eliminated our opportunities. Darren Ruetz had an impressive tip that went just a little high. Bradley had a hard slap shot that was turned away and as the buzzer sounded they had doubled us up for a 4-2 final.

The boys were one gear down from the intensity of the win the end of last year. As they lay plans for the next game, they have to know in their minds they can come out and play fast, smart hockey and get to the level they proved to us they can play with great passes and many shots on net.
