Epic Battle
The Drayton Defenders marched up to the Teeswater Complex Friday night to meet the Novice Local Leaguers.
Friday night action in Teeswater had our South Bruce Novice Local League team take on the visiting Drayton Defenders. The action was brisk right from the opening face-off with the South Bruce kids getting chance after chance. You could hear the crowds reaction every time the kids were so, so close to netting a goal. The Drayton team did a good job keeping the puck out of their net, but the South Bruce kids were persistent and were able to notch the first goal of the game.
The Drayton team would not break and started taking it to the South Bruce kids and were able to break in and get a goal to tie the game up. The action was back and forth with each team getting their chances but neither were able to find the back of the net until late in the game when Drayton went up 2-1.
The South Bruce kids showed their character and never gave up swarming the Drayton net but they just couldn't get one by and then with about 2 minutes to go - the South Bruce team pulled their goalie making it a 6 on 5 situation and again, they hovered around the Drayton net and just couldn't tie it up.
Great game kids! It was fun to watch and we really can see positional play starting to become more natural. Even though the South Bruce team was short a couple players, the team kept focused and played a good game. We'll get them next time!
