Build your own backyard rink!
Submitted By WebAdmin on Tuesday, November 20, 2018
With the colder temperatures here and whether your kids are enrolled in minor hockey or skating or just simply want the kids outdoors more, why not build them a back yard rink? Yes, the backyard rinks are A LOT OF TIME CONSUMPTION to keep them up and running, but just think of the endless hours they will have outdoors burning off energy. If you are lucky, you can encourage the kids to help shovel it off for an extra half hour ice time or a later bed time could be negotiated too.

The internet has numerous how to videos and articles on building your own rink. With a little bit of investment on some boards, perhaps a liner and some outdoor lighting, your kids will be the envy of the neighbourhood and you could very well be the hangout spot on any given night or afternoon.  Add a bench or an old chair to the side for a nice spot to sit and put skates on.  A big kettle full of hot chocolate on the colder days will always came in handy too.
And why just have the ice for the kids? Grab a couple buddies or gal pals and have a skate night too!

If you do make an outdoor rink, please share on our Facebook page.
