What a way to start the week off!
A remarkable display of team work and discipline was put on display at the Walkertoan Arena Tuesday night.
The boys played hard for the entire 40 minutes and managed to shut down a couple of the Walkerton key players.
Darren almost got things started just 20 seconds into the game and Bradley folllowed him up with a great attempt all before 1 minute of the first period went by. All of us in the stands just knew we were in for a great hockey game. The boys had a lot of spark and played great heads up hockey.
Jake got us on the board first after a bunch of activity in front of the Walkerton net and after getting a pass from Bradley opened the scoring for South Bruce.The pretty play of the night ( in my opinion) was a beautiful long pass from Lachlan to Darren. Although it did not put a point on the board, it was nice to see how the boys have grown as hockey players this year.
Seven seconds into the second, Karson had a great shot that pushed the netting back in the Walkerton goal to give us a 2 point lead. Tanner worked hard getting by their D and then had a beauty pass to Jake with 10 left in the second. Simon had a great pass to Karson that could of been a marker had lady luck been on our side.
As the minutes were ticking by in the second, Nick and Karson did a perfect job of holding the puck in the Walkerton end. Jake had to go for a little rest in the sin bin and while he was there, Tanner was wide awake when we were a man short, stole the puck and had a shot and then got his own rebound for a second try. Ryan did a stellar job with several shots from the point that just could not make it through the traffic. Simon had a couple of fast hustles down the left wing moving the puck deep into the Walkerton end.
The light was soon to come on again as Karson, with great speed, got past the D picked up the puck and dazzled the goalie and pushed in his second of the night, now 3-0. We will say that Brandon had an assist on this goal, even though he was on the bench, but the game sheet said he was there!! The team really put it together in the dieing seconds of the second period, as Walkerton really dug in hard to get something on the score board ....but not tonight !
Our defense continued in the third of breaking up play after play and clearing the puck to our own players. Brandon did a marvelous job of getting in the way of the play and stopping a push to our end. Matthew made several key saves to earn the shut-out for the 3-0 final.
Great effort by all.
It is amazing what can happen when everyone is dedicated to making a difference.
The intensity the entire team played with and how well you controlled the game was outstanding.
Believe boys.....we now know how well all of you can play..
